FAQ: Fall 2020 dining

Last Updated on

How will Bryant University maintain social distancing in Salmanson Dining hall?

Bryant will offer a staggered meal service, with reduced capacity at each seating to eliminate potential crowding. The dining hall entrance and exit will be monitored to oversee the flow of traffic and capacity, and we will install six-foot markers for the queue of students entering the dining hall.

The dining tables inside our main dining hall will be spaced in updated configurations to meet six-foot social distancing requirements.

Floor markers and point-of-use signage will be prominently displayed to remind students of CDC guidelines and encourage distancing.

Will students be required to wear masks in the dining halls?

Yes, in compliance with State of Rhode Island regulations, face masks/coverings are to be worn in all Bryant University public areas including dining areas, meeting rooms and classrooms, hallways, and high-traffic outdoor walkways where it is difficult to maintain safe distance. The exception is when the students are seated in the dining hall and enjoying their meal.

What measures is Bryant taking to assure heightened food safety procedures and cleaning protocols in the dining areas?

For maximum food safety, all self-service options such as the salad bar will be eliminated.

We will increase our frequent cleaning of tables and touchpoints. High-touch surfaces will be sanitized and disinfected with professional-grade products multiple times each day.

What is Bryant doing to encourage contactless dining transactions?

We are installing additional technology including touchless entryways, online ordering, cashless payments, and delivery options to limit contact between students and dining staff.

To give our students more dining options, The Scoop, located in the Fisher Student Center, will serve as an additional take-out location. This summer the Scoop venue will be converted to an additional space for grab-and-go meals.

We will also expand options for prepackaged meals and carryout orders, potentially including delivery where feasible.

If a student is ill and required to isolate or quarantine, how will they get their meals?

Safe meal delivery options will be provided for any students experiencing symptoms or diagnosed with COVID-19.

What safety measures are required of Bryant’s food service personnel?

While on campus, Bryant dining employees will utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including wearing face masks and gloves when in the dining facilities.

Dining service employees will regularly report on their health, including temperature checks.

Dining staff will continue to wash hands thoroughly and frequently.
